  1. HMS Rodney (Nelson class BB) torpedoed Bismark - it carried the 24.5" torpedoes, the biggest in RN inventory. As for the Hood being a battlecruiser you are correct, but in game every battleship is technically a battlecruiser until armoured up. The Hipper/Prinz Eugen is a small example (they were sister ships with minor differences) but there are other examples as well: Provence, Izmail and Fuso were WWI ships that (in game) are more powerful than WWII ships. If you are looking for historical inaccuracies please check the speeds as well. Bottom line is: This is a simple game for fast, fun online battles. Names and approximate figures of real ships or ship projects are used but all are modified to fit approximately their class and level. Enjoy the game. I'm looking forward to sink you (or be sunk).
  2. I didn't have a problem naming my RN account with a space (8-9 months ago), and ships (most recently "dr strangelove" a week ago)
  3. .

Nice to hear, hope you enjoy the dog and "Bombona" is happy in her new home. Note: I guess we have a different definition for online shopping
  4. .

Online? you didn't get to see the dog before you bought it?
  5. Nah, my problem stems from my total incompetence in multitasking. I send out some planes and then only the planes are in my mind, I completely forget about the carrier that might be sailing full speed uncontrolled and only realise when the planes suddenly drop like flies...
  6. Ok, thanks for the clarification - I had the whole concept wrong, I thought you were advocating different tiers in different battles not matching the tier "values" of the two sides in the same battle. At the time being I'm such a horrible CV player that a green DD1 can easily kill my Europa over and over... I hope I'll change that before I give up on the CV.
  7. I'd like to refer you to: Sub hunting thread
  8. And tomorrow (or the day after), I'll leave the (at last) vet type XXI submarine aside and pick up the Europa CV, with green crew. Will I still be in the same tier and get slaughtered each and every time, leaving my team down at the same time? Or will I get down to tier 1 with the suicidal players and noob crew lvl1 DDs? Both cases will result in unfair battles.
  9. Yesterday I entered battle with the DD1 (unintentionally) and I believe I played it ok. Sunk 2-3 dummy DD/CLs obstructed a sub and harassed a BB to my death - in order to give an allied BB dueling it an advantage. I was fully aware that getting close to the BB I will be wasted but without AA guns my utility was very limited when only opposing BBs and CAs remained in the field. My point is that I enjoyed a battle with a ship only useful to get a player to lvl 3 where he can get a half-decent DD - i did 30-40k damage and felt like I had some impact on the outcome of the battle. And that in a battle where I barely met the opposing SS before it sunk and there was no opposing CV. Edit: No point in the above - lost my train of thought. I wanted to say that the tier system should take into account (somehow) player skill as well as ship and crew.
  10. I love them too for the same reasons. But it's not only the bots that are suicidal - and the bots will get smarter sooner or later.
  11. Well said once again diddy. Part of the problem though is that DDs and CLs are generally suicidal - while if they played their role the 4-5 subs as you say would be severely restricted.
  12. Generally agree and well said. 1) Surely a BB50 seems like a chore now. At 0 stars the only thing it can do is stick close to a stronger BB, add its damage to a target and hope it won't get targeted. 2k xp is a huge amount but keeps me playing a ship as it gives me a target, once a ship is "vetted" its generally at dock until summoned for wof. 2) Endgame CV vs SS - bombers occupy: unfair for SS, bombers don't (supposedly) unfair for CV but faster resolution of battle. Texas / any PCL18: while the reduction in damage some updates ago balanced them a bit their tiny size is still a problem for the reason you (diddy) said. 3) Useless for most, might be of use to some, doesn't hurt the game (other than that I just accumulate them and have no use for them - I just see an empty box) so I don't complain BB120: Just wait another 6-8 months, I'll get my 120 and duel you. with fireworks.
  13. or the not so new players. The way I play I get about 100 crew xp per day, it takes me a month and a half to vet a BB/SS... agreed. As it is I have no incentive to get a premium ship, I save all gold for the BB120 (that I'll probably never get as I'll need another six months to get to the level) BB80 is useless as well as expert is below lvl80
  14. You're right, the gold award doesn't always go to the right people. The chief/leader should have some tools to help him choose the split. (who participated in how many wofs, result of wof, who initiated each wof) Or: a. Players should be awarded depending on fleet points earned during their participation in wofs (unfair for players that were in losing battles) b. Players should get 1/2/3 fleet participation points for each wof they participate and get their awards correspondingly to their participation points. A fleet-bank/fleet arsenal would be nice - where fleet members can choose to gift some excess resources to assist other fleet members. But specific gifts instead of gold? you can use the awarded gold to get these as it is now why change that?
  15. From some DD vs SS duels we tried (all veteran crews) it seems the SS always comes on top. I'd like to see the sub-hunting abilities of the small ships beefed up a bit (stronger torps and hedgehogs and/or faster reload) so that the sub-hunting ability is strengthened. That way DDs and CLs are more useful in a fleet and ultimately the relative strengths are better balanced. Right now it seems that the Submarine is king of the fleet (except for the almost indestructible BB120s). Note: this suggestion comes from a primarily sub player. Any thoughts?
  16. Below is part (most) of a private discussion I had with Neuner on the subject: Neuner Replied: Friday at 08:23 PM · Report .... do you really think, that DD and SS should be somewhat even? I think the hunter (DD) should not be able to fight one SS on his own. I served on a sub-hunter myself in the navy, and those use two helicopters to be anything of use. So in my opinion the chances should be even if there's two DD on one SS. So SS survivability chance could be: 1DD vs 1SS 90% 2DD vs 1SS 50% 3DD vs 1SS 10% baldrick Replied: 6 hours ago · Report Hmm... yes and no. Survivability is one thing, being able to press on and complete objectives while having a sub-hunter over you another. The real life parallel is that the sub would go deep and silent and hope for the best. In addition I believe the two helicopters were used primarily to detect/locate the subs - and once located the ship would obliterate it. My suggestion is to give the DD/CL a reason to be in a (master GB) fleet. As it is now their usefulness is limited in the detection of subs and AAW, as sub-hunters they under-perform. Please note that I only recommend a small nudge to make small ships more useful in a fleet - not a complete overhaul of the battle system. It just feels more natural for a sub to see a sub hunter and think "shit.. run, hide, change of objectives that road is closed" rather than "cool, some extra kill is coming this way". Neuner Replied: 5 hours ago · Report Helicopters are used for a better detection and engaging the sub with torps as well. For online GB One free with you, most DD are nothing but extra kills. In WoF where there are the more experienced players (well and all know of Nfkm addiction to subs) we often face some ASW-ships which are able to bind an SS until the battles done or oxy runs low... .... So more power to the torps would be a bad decision. Maybe a faster reload for DD would do. 🤔But not too fast, so that they wont become a deadly enemy for CL and CA in normal battles... baldrick Replied: 5 hours ago · Report 5 hours ago, Neuner said: we often face some ASW-ships which are able to bind an SS until the battles done or oxy runs low... nice, as should be. The reason I started the thread (and our discussion) is that a sub can disregard damage taken by a DD in order to achieve an objective. I realised I was picking up the habit of not avoiding tops/HHs from DDs in order to not lose my primary objective - and often was successful in sinking/crippling a BB and then with still >50% life left deal with the DD that was chasing me. In my view (while satisfactory when done) this is not good for the game overall and should be fixed. PS. that was with the IX D2, cant wait to get some stars on the XXI Neuner Replied: 5 hours ago · Report You are right, while running on your prime target the biggest threat is another SS and not the ASW ships. And with Master-Repair on SS4 you could even take some torps of SS in a face-to-face combat if that would bring you in the position to sink the enemy. Take the dagger, to place your sword...
  17. They're some kind of crew upgrade points, used to buy xp for crew with gold and level up faster. Viewable at the crew screen.
  18. Nice, next step to toggle the target of auto guns (surface or air) when not in focus and improving the auto aim by adding some deflection. I feel sorry for the cv captains... something needs to be done to avoid destroying the balance (if auto aaw becomes efficient).
  19. I'm just saying that paper wins scissors in that case. I don't see how CAs will be affected if DD/CLs will be enhanced by strengthening their torps/HHs.
  20. I stand by my opinion. Purpose of the DD/CL is fleet support in AAW and Sub hunting. As it is now the hedgehogs and torps are weak enough so a good sub can afford to take a couple of hits in order not to miss its high value target and then deal with the threat. In my view a sub vs sub-hunter battle should be 90% in favour of the hunter. Having equal torps to SS/torp planes and stronger HHs will give the small ships a nice (and fair and more realistic) punch and make them again relevant in a fleet. Only problem with much stronger CL torps will be overpowering the Kitakami... (and Emden to a smaller degree) but if their torp range was also reduced to SS standards, shouldn't be much of an issue.
  21. Also while in main guns aiming at a point of a ship mostly works (for small ranges at least), AA guns should compensate for target movement (deflection). A simple suggestion is to aim a pecentage of the gun-target distance ahead of the plane (devs should figure out how much). Will still miss manoeuvring and circling planes but at least manage to hit a couple flying in a straight line.
  22. It seems the devs listen sometimes. The rollback (3.7.0) to leveling with oil proves that.
  23. Nice. complaining when bad updates happen works. 3.7.0 reverts leveling to oil. Way to go devs! thanks for listening
  24. Some fleets are already using external chat programs in wofs, adding a spy won't make a difference
  25. Neuner has a point here. Observer mode for fleet members only - that can only see whatever is visible by allies with a save and review feature available for debriefing and tactics analysis. Observer mode for third parties only after the battle is done.
